Welcome to Butterfield

As the district name indicates, the Butterfield Elementary Community is located in Maricopa, AZ, a hot spot of residential development and a great place to raise a family and grow a strong community. We are forty miles south of Phoenix and twenty-three miles north of Casa Grande. The sun shines on us twelve months out of the year, which is perfect for field trips and hands-on science activities that make the most of our natural desert surroundings.

90% of our students will read at grade level by 3rd grade!

We are dedicated to increasing the academic success of our students. We believe that our students must be reading at grade level by third grade. This solid foundation will increase their success in the latter years of their educational career.

We are also dedicated to the whole child approach, which focuses on each child's individuality. This approach allows teacher to incorporate music, movement, and art into the classroom.

We have set the goal to move from a performing plus school to a highly performing school as determined by the Arizona Department of Education school standardization scale. Help us reach this goal by being involved with your student's education! We value our partnership and our family environment at Butterfield!

We understand the importance of teaching our students the core values that they will need to become successful members of our community. We use the Character Counts Program to teach, model, and reinforce the six pillars of character: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship.

Please spend some time in our Web site. You’ll find useful information and other items of interest in our calendar, news, and FAQ pages. As always, feel free to contact us at any time or come for a visit. This is a great year for us all to work together.

A Special Message from our Principal

As educators in the 21st century, we are charged with educating students to be successful in a complex, interconnected world. This responsibility requires schools to prepare students for technological, cultural, economic, informational, and demographic changes.

At Butterfield Elementary we support changes in teaching, learning, and leadership that adequately prepare students for the 21st century who

  • Acquire and apply core knowledge and critical-thinking skill sets that are essential in an information age
  • Demonstrate creativity, innovation, and flexibility when collaborating with business and community members to advance common goals
  • Make decisions and solve problems ethically and collaboratively
  • Use technology to gather, analyze, and synthesize information for application in a global economy
  • Exhibit positive interpersonal relationships that value multiple languages, cultures, and all persons
  • Display leadership skills that inspire others to achieve, serve, and work together

This last year, our school was one of the three schools in the district that made Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) and made the label of Performing Plus. This year, our goal is to move to the next level of student achievement from being good to becoming great. We will be an excelling school as determined by our state assessment scores, attendance rates, and disciplinary referrals. It will take all of us to achieve this goal. Encourage your student to be a student of character making the most of this school year and learning to their fullest potential.

We look forward to a great year!
